There are several methods of splicing elevator belts: Vulcanized, lap, butt, and mechanical or Dura splice. The vulcanized splice requires specialized equipment and procedures, and will not be described here.
Lap joint ends of belt are overlapped and bolted. Overlap should be a minimum of 3 bucket spaces, with bolts.
Butt Joint ends of belt are connected end-to-end and fastened with a belt splice (several types are available), with an overlaid section of belt providing additional strength. The added butt splice belt should provide a minimum of 3 bucket spaces with bolts.
Bar, Angle or Mechanical fastened with structural bar, angle, or purchased fastening device, with bolts through both ends of the belt.
